After a discussion last night with some of the attendees of the Congress for New Urbanism regarding how bikeable West Palm Beach is, I decided to take some pictures of my (twice) daily 5-mile bike ride to work.
I start just South of Forest Hill and bike along Flagler across Southern Blvd and under Lakeview Bridge (Okeechobee) to my office on the second floor of 400 Clematis.

My trusty bare-bones commuter bike
Alpine is a beautiful quiet street, no bike lanes, but very little traffic.
Coming onto Flagler Dr. you get a beautiful view of the sunrise (most mornings)
South Flagler Drive has well marked bike lanes. Traffic is calm
Irrigation systems are refreshing but can make patches slippery.
If you don’t want to drive on the road you can take the winding lakeside path
Lots of nice lake side homes to fly by
Crossing Southern Blvd, you often meet people going to work on Palm Beach Island
As you enter the neighborhood of Southland Park, the bike lane disappears
Sidewalk is closed in several places for new building
Flagler goes away from the waterfront for a drive through the Prospect Park Neighborhood
Very calm section of Flagler, old trees make lighting an issue in the evening
Lots of old spanish-style homes in this area. This one is getting a good gutting.
Flagler meets back with the waterfront. Two miles left till Downtown
There are no bike lanes, so I prefer to bike on the path

As well as the former site of 1515 Flagler Condo destroyed in the Hurricane
Palm Beach Atlantic University sits just outside the downtown area

We’re on the waterfront – no bike lanes on this 4-lane section of flagler. Stay on the path.
