9 Exciting Businesses Coming to the Clematis Street District

I hope everyone had a good & safe New Year’s celebration. A lot has happened around Clematis Street in the past few months including some of our local places closing.

  • Tin Fish: Closed (December)
  • The Bee: Moved to Island Bee at 261 Royal Poinciana Way Palm Beach
  • Bar Louie: Closed
  • Shout Karaoke: Closed
  • Burger & Beer Joint (CityPlace): Closed
  • Macy’s (CityPlace): Closing in March

There has been some hand-wringing on Facebook, and while it’s sad to see places you enjoyed visiting close, I believe that this is part of the downtown business cycle that we see at the beginning of each year. If you’re on Clematis for the Lunch or Dinner service you’ll see how packed it is, and how it’s been getting progressively busier over the last few years.

To give everyone something to look forward to, I’ve compiled a list of all the new exciting new places that are coming to the Clematis Street district.

Aioli West Palm Beach at 206 S. Olive

(from Palm Beach Post) Remember the old Palm Beach Cafe with the murals and excellent banana pancakes? Yep. Just a few steps from the Paris Cafe & Bakery? That’s the spot.

Aioli, the popular breakfast and lunch cafe on Dixie Highway in West Palm Beach, is moving in. They’ve completely gutted the place for a brand new look of what will soon be Aioli Downtown on Olive and Datura in West Palm.

The Butcher shop and Beer Garden at 6th Street between Olive & Flagler

(from Palm Beach Post) The West Palm Beach restaurant will blend the Butcher Shop restaurant with an old-fashioned meat market run by Igor Niznik in Palm Beach Gardens. The Nizniks own Charlie’s Gourmet Meat Market at 10800 Military Trail.

“Beer goes with a steak, and if you buy that steak to take it home that’s even better,” Fred Niznik said.

The decision to put a new location of its funky concept in West Palm Beach continues to cement the city’s image as a hip town, where innovative eateries move into older buildings and help lift surrounding neighborhoods.

West Palm Beach Brewery at 322 Evernia Street

This is opening in the former Hard Exercise Works space and promises to be an exciting addition to downtwon.

In addition to craft beers, pilsners, porters and stouts made on the premises, the West Palm Beach Brewery will also offer an alternative for those who enjoy wine, but not beer: small lot, premium wines from Napa Valley and the Sta. Rita Hills.

The tap room will pour 5-10 standard or core beers, 2-4 “reserve” beers, and 1-2 “dessert beers” available throughout the year, in addition to small lot, seasonal offerings.

“Construction is under way, the tanks should be in, in January, and the designers are now working on the outdoor beer garden” a spokesperson said. “In January, we will solicit interviews with artisan food trucks since we will not make food on the premises.  We want a Napa Valley tasting room atmosphere where visitors and guests meet, try, sip and eat together.  We encourage friends and groups to picnic and bring their own food, have lunches and dinners inside or outside in our West Palm Beach beer garden under the stars.”

Delivering creative, edgy Asian food paired with colorful craft cocktails, Kapow! is poised to fill another gap in a downtown dining scene filled with pubs and martini bars. It may be small in stature in a tiny corner location in Boca’s entertainment district, but Kapow! looms large in the local restaurant and bar scene. Among the numerous honors bestowed over the past 4 1/2 years are “best new restaurant,” “best cocktail bar,” “best happy hour,” and “best restaurant” in various polls.
